One Day Safari to Shimba Hills National Reserve, Snorkelling at the Wasini Kisite Island and a One hour Primate Nature Walk in Diani Beach.

This 3 in 1 safari package starts from Diani Beach and includes the following itineraries:

1 Day Safari Shimba Hills National Reserve by Minivan:

Starting at about 06h00, you will picked up from your diani beach hotel early in the morning after and drive 35km upwards into to Shimba hills national game reserve. 

The reserve is about 300sq km in size and is one of the last remaining coastal forests that is home to rare plants, a variety of bird life, forest elephants, buffalo, giraffe, leopard and the endangered sable antelopes. 

After your morning drive, proceed for an optional guided walk of about 2 km looking at the flowers, trees, butterflies and dragonflies along the way. You will be guided by a KWS ranger walking down hill up to the Sheldrick Waterfalls where you can rest and feel the fresh cool mist of the falling water. 

From here, we return to the vehicles walking back uphill and then proceed with a game drive enroute to Shimba Lodge for lunch.

After lunch depart from the lodge and enjoy an optional safari game drive as you admire the hilly landscape of the Reserve. We then depart back to your Diani Beach hotel arriving in the late afternoon.

1 Day Wasini / Kisite Island Snorkeling Trip:

Departing in the morning from your diani beach hotel, start the journey with a scenic drive passing the coconut and sugarcane plantations of the south coast as you head towards Shimoni fishing village near the Tanzanian border.

Upon arrival at the Shimoni Jetty, the crew will arrange for your marine park tickets from where you will then board a traditional Arabic motorized dhow to start your oceanic voyage into the Wasini Channel. The dhow trip is handled by the Wasini Island Community so the friendly local crew members will be quite happy to share their island life stories with you as you sail past their beautiful island.

Arriving close to the snorkeling spot, the sharp eyed captain and crew will start to search for the resident dolphins that usually are around. 

Although chances are high, because the dolphins are wild and free it might be your lucky day to spot them. When the dhow stops at the snorkelling site, your mask and snorkel will be provided and one of the crew members will accompany you as a guide in the water. Marvel at the underwater world in search of butterfly fish, parrot fish, wrasses, sweetlips and possibly turtles.

After snorkeling, board the dhow once again and head for Wasini Island to a local restaurant where you will be served with a traditional swahili lunch. The lunch menu consists either of chicken, fish or vegetarian served with fresh coconut rice, sauce and fruits. Soft drinks, mineral water or fresh juices can be purchased directly at the restaurant.
 

After lunch and some relaxation depart from Shimoni in the afternoon to arrive back in your respective diani hotel by mid afternoon.

Guided Primate Eco-Tour (One Hour):

Picking you up from your hotel in Diani Beach, we will take a short drive to the colobus conservation centre to begin the tour. 

The primate eco-tour is a guided walk taking you along the colobus conservation's nature trail for an introduction into the life of a wild colobus troop and some of the other wild monkeys like Vervet's, Sykes and Baboons - depending on who is about. 

The walk is followed by an informative talk by the experts at the information centre where a series of posters help further to visualise the ongoing primate conservation activities. As it is an active conservation centre, visitors are likely to see the volunteers and staff at work, building bridges, caring for injured monkeys or doing their primate research.

After this informative tour, we will take you back to your hotel to enjoy the rest of your holiday.
